Kontrol S4 / S2 Mapper FAQ

- When I try and import your VDJ.ncks_ file, my Controller Editor shutsdown/crashes, what's the deal?!?

In most cases, this is caused because your version of Controller Editor is not activated through Service Center.

- But my Controller Editor works without being activated...

See my Service Center picture below...I recommend updating to the latest version and activating the application for good measure.  I test all of the files when the Controller Editor is updated to ensure no conflicts with templates.  If this does not fix the issue send me a message here.

Controller Editor Activated

- I have placed the files where you directed but the mapper does not show up?!?

In the mappers tab of VDJ preferences, check the "Show disconnected devices."  This option can be found near the dropbox that shows the names of the mappers installed.

Does the mapper show up now?  If not, this means that the files are in the wrong location.

For PC:
The definition.xml needs to be placed in the My Documents > VirtualDJ > Devices folder,
The mapper.xml needs to be placed in the My Documents > VirtualDJ > Mappers folder,

For OSX
The definition.xml needs to be placed in the Documents > VirtualDJ > Devices folder,
The mapper.xml needs to be placed in the Documents > VirtualDJ > Mappers folder,

Devices Path

Mapper Path

**Note**
Only one definition.xml and one mapper.xml can exist for each controller.  What this means is that if you have any other definition and mapper in those folders aside from mine, they must be moved.  This is because the Midi controller can only use one combination of files.

- Installing on OSX and the folders are not in the Documents Folder?

Depending on the install, OSX may be using a hidden folder.  Check out this link and try placing the files in this location instead of the documents folder.

- OK the mappers shows up but my controller does not respond....what now?!?

APC40 (Win/OSX): Re-read the "ReadMe" file.  Understand that you must have a version of Ableton installed in order for my mapper to work as seen on my video.

Kontrol S2 (OSX): If the VDJ.ncks2 file imported properly without error, than the most likely cause is the MIDI Driver (see the picture below).  The S2 should show up as a midi device (I know the picture shows the S4, but the S2 will show up if installed properly).  If the S2 does not show up, download and install the latest drivers from the National Instruments Website.

Kontrol S4 (OSX): If the VDJ.ncks4 file imported properly without error, than the most likely cause is the MIDI Driver (see the picture below).  The S4 should show up as a midi device.  If the S4 does not show up, download and install the latest drivers from the National Instruments Website.

- I have everything up and running but the S2/S4 LEDs don't work...what gives?!?

This is a known problem that I have been working on getting resolved for OSX platform only.  If this is happening on a WIN platform, than the VDJ.ncks2/VDJ.ncks4 file did not import completely.  I suggest deleting the VDJ file from the National Instrument Controller Editor and re-importing the file again.  If this does not work, send me a message here.
